Garage Apartment, NC

A family retreat in North Carolina needed space for guests and cars.  This two bedroom, one bath getaway with combined kitchen/living area fit the bill beautifully.  The desire for natural light and the ability to view the mountain scenery drove the design.  A common framed roof allowed for 16 foot tall ceilings at the center beam and tongue and groove pine boards to finish the ceiling.  Picking up on elements of the main house, large transom windows fill the gable ends while pop-up shed roofs allow for taller operable windows on the sides.  Stacked stone, cedar shakes and bracketed roof accents complete the tie in to the main home.  Interior finishes were selected with Interior Designer Tony Raffa of Raffa Design Associates of Houston, Texas and Highlands, North Carolina.
